DU Campus Tour

Some of the DU fellows conducted all of us around for a Dillard University campus tour. DU has a beautiful campus ! All the buildings are painted in white and there are vast stretches of green everywhere. Here are some pictures that I took while walking around on campus:

As you can see, Dillard has a pretty campus. Whats more impressive is the fact that almost all of this had to be rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. Katrina had really taken its toll on the DU campus and most of the buildings were really gutted out. One interesting thing to note is that the city of New Orelans is actually below sea level, so when there's heavy rain at DU, the whole campus floods up. We even spotted a canal wall right in DU's campus..

There's also a nice tradition at DU. It's called walking the "Avenue of the Oaks". As the name implies, the place is sort of an avenue of oak trees:

DU students as part of the graduation ceremony walk the distance from whether this picture was taken to all the way where you can see the white building at the end. Apparently one batch (in the 1950's) who could not have the ceremony outside that day because it was raining were invited to 50 years later to walk the avenue of the oaks!
